As central as Antwerp gets, the lovely triangular square Grote Markt is the city's so-called response to Grand Place in Brussels, only smaller, though, as with its neighbour to the south, also home to its Stadhuis (City Hall) – in this case a 16th-century Flemish neo-Renaissance beauty. A statue of local mythological hand-severing giant Brabo towers in the middle of the square, which is framed by striking 16th century guild houses with 19th-century adornments.
